Explanation

A piece of glass extracted from inside a woman’s body.

The woman was at her home in Takara-machi when the atomic bomb was dropped. She tied her child to her back and fled. The family home was burnt down in the fire that broke out and 20 tatami mats, piled up to be refaced, were burnt to ashes.

The piece of glass was extracted from below the left collarbone when the woman underwent an operation in 1994, at the age of 86.
