A death certificate issued by the Nagasaki police for the donor’s father, Kanematsu Matsuo.
Mr. and Mrs. Matsuo ran a pottery shop only 100m from the hypocenter and were both killed by the atomic bomb. The certificate has crumbled but states, “This certificate confirms that the individual whose name is written on the right, died in an air raid on the 9th August 1945. Issued by the Nagasaki Police, 22nd August 1945.”
Mr. Matsuo’s eldest son donated the certificate. He had received it from someone who had been holding onto it for him until he returned from China in January 1946.
