These are the remains of trousers owned by Koji Shirabe, a first-year student at Nagasaki Medical College. The trousers had been given to him by his cousin, and he was wearing them when he died in the atomic bombing at the college anatomy lecture hall. Although reduced to a skeleton by the fires, the corpse was identified because the name of Shirabe’s cousin, “Yamamoto,” remained on this unburned portion of the trousers.
