Explanation

This cross was kept at the family altar of the adoptive father of the donor. Located next to Nyokodo, 9 family members lived in the family home, including the wife of the adoptive father, his mother and 6 children.
The day the atomic bomb was dropped the adoptive father went to Aku-no-Ura for work and one of the children, who was a student, was mobilized to work too. The other 7 family members, who were at home, were all killed.
This cross, found by the adoptive father amongst the wreckage of the home, was cherished by him. The right arm of image of Jesus Christ was broken in the blast and the bottom part is charred from the fire.
