Explanation | The surface of the tile boiled and bubbled when exposed directly to the heat rays, leaving a foaming pattern characteristic of tiles exposed to the atomic bomb. The bubbles, which were larger the shorter the distance to the hypocenter, remain as evidence of the tremendous heat generated by the atomic bomb. Experiments showed that the same characteristic appears in roof tiles which are exposed to temperatures of 1,800°C for four seconds.
